The #1 Fat Secret Weight loss tip

Losing weight is not easy.  It takes commitment and dedication.  I am sure that we all know people who can eat anything under the sun and not gain a pound.  Then there are people like me who simply are in the presence of delicious smelling food and gain weight.

Well there is a big secret that people are hiding from the general population.

I am not goint to reveal the secret in this blog.  However, if you sign up for more information, I will lead you to the source of this great tip.

It is not hard to lose weight if you follow this method.

I have lost 103 pounds in 6 months and I feel like a brand new person.

What have you got to lose?  The information is priceless.

My food plan

I have been asked several times what I eat to achieve the success that I have been able to reach.
For me, I am a food-aholic. It is a strange term, probably one that doesn't truly exist, and yet, I am on.
I love food.
Before I started on this journey, I was eating between 3000 and 6000 calories a day. I tried eating healthier
foods.
You know what all the nutritionists say, eat your whole grains. Eat lean meat; eat your fruits and vegetables.
I was doing this.

My problem was serving size. Why only have 1/2 cup of bran cereal when it is supposed to be good for you.
Why not have 1.5 cups?
Whole grain pasta is good for you. So why only have 3/4 cups? I would eat 2 cups. I would smother it in
homemade sauce or in real parmesan cheese. Cheese is healthy, so why limit to only a sprinkle?
I am a meat eater. I love my steak, chicken and fish. I would have no problem polishing off a 24 oz. steak.
I would regularly order a 16 oz. steak when going to a restaurant. I would usually choose fries as my side.
Can't have steak without fries right?
I was also a snacker. I would have a bag of chips or a candy bar any time I felt like it.
Here is a break down as far as nutrients go for a day of eating.

Carbs 677.8 g
Fat 288.82
Protein 169.28 g

Let me tell you, I thought I was doing the right thing, but felt horrible.
That is truly flawed thinking.
I was making some very poor choices of some very healthy foods.

I have worked with a mentor (Gail at the Healthy Weigh Clinic) on what constitutes a healthy diet.
I keep track of my food. I follow serving sizes. Yes, it means using measuring cups and a scale,
but I do not want to go back to where I was before.

I am now eating much healthier and I feel full. When before, I would think I was hungry, when in fact
I was suffering from sugar cravings.
I was a carb junkie.

Now this is what I eat in a typical day. It works for me. I feel better and I have much more energy.

Breakfast
7 oz. Schneider’s Fat free ham
1 cup Blueberries
1 serving of Source Low Fat Yogurt
1 serving PC Blue Menu Fibre First Multi-Bran Cereal
1/2 skim milk

On alternate days I replace the cereal and milk with 2 slices of light rye bread and 1 tbsp. butter
Or I simply add homemade granola to my yogurt.

Lunch
2 cups lettuce salad
1 serving of Fat Free salad dressing
1 medium pork chop

On alternate days I have 1 filet of broiled or grilled fish and 2 cups of sliced veggies.

Supper
2 cups cooked cabbage
6oz boneless/skinless chick breast.

I also have a mid-day snack.
1/2 cup of pistachios and a medium Granny Smith Apple.

This works out to the following:

Carbs 85.52 g
Fat 27.26 g
Protein 106.58 g

A huge difference in how I was eating.

Like I said before, this is what is working for me. You have to try to make positive changes that work for you.
This is primarily a fitness program but for me because of my health it also became about the food I was eating.
I would not call it a diet. I call it a life change.

I was living to eat. Now I eat to live. And I feel great.

100 pounds since January

It has been 5 months since I started my journey to health. I feel like I have been given a new lease on life. I like where I am in my life. I have more energy. I enjoy waking up in the morning.

Food tastes better because it is real food and not processed garbage. I read labels on the food I buy now. Anything that is "fortified with vitamins" isn't healthy for you because it is man made. I look for whole grains, lean protein, healthy carbs. I stay away from refined sugar and salt. Raw seasonings for me taste much better than processed. The food that is closer to natural is much better tasting and healthier.

I also have much more energy. I do not feel the need to nap every afternoon. I wake up after a very restful sleep. I look forward to the day and nothing gets in my way.

Being healthy has changed my perception and my outlook on life. I am much more positive and I now see the silver lining in the clouds.

I know that in time things will get even better as I focus attention on growing this business part of my program. I know that I am still learning this part of the business but I am learning. That is the important thing.

Success follows those who are successful.

Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.

Gift of life

I am so happy to be part of this program.  So many of us take our lives for granted.  I thought I had a great life.  Working at a job that I like and in a fantastic relationship.

I was fooling myself.  I was happy on the outside, but I was literally dying on the inside.  I was in very poor health.  High blood pressure, constant migraines and getting winded just walking a very short distance.
This is my starting picture.  I was 285.

Now that I have lost 97 pounds in the past 4.5 months I realize now that in the past I was living a lie.

 Here is my current photo.

I am now 188lbs and much healthier and happier.

I have low-normal blood pressure.  I sleep a very restful sleep.  I don't get fatigued as quickly.  I rarely get migraines.

When I go shopping, I find something I like and I know that the item will fit.  Most of my clothes are medium instead of XXL. That is a great feeling.

For those of you who are near the beginning of your journey, keep at it,  Everyone is different and my success was pretty steady.  But I am a very determined person.  I become so focused on my fitness that nothing could deter me.

I am now near the end of my weigh tloss, but my fitness journey will always be a part of me.  I look forward to the work outs.  It is so easy to work out 7 minutes a day and 3 days a week.

I also enjoy spreading the gift of life.  I  have a few buddies that I was able to get in to this program and they are looking forward to their personal journey as well.

I really like the sense of community that this site has created. We are a global family.  There are those who are active in the forums and in the blogs.

I feel proud to be so involved with this program.  Thank you Joel, Chris and Melissa for being such great support.

Beat the heat

When you are dedicated to your exercise and fitness, you know that at times you need to make adjustments to your schedule.

For example, I live in Canada on the Prairies. We have very hot dry summers and very cold winters. So we make adjustments to our routine as needed.

Today the temperature is 31c (88f),  with a humidex of 42c (107f) . That is pretty warm. So instead of doing my activities outside in the blazing hot sun, I remain inside where it is safer and cooler.  I only venture out in the evening when the sun is not so hot.

During the day, you have to keep hyrated.  Drink water and plenty of it.  Where loose comfortable clothing so that you do not run the risk of heat exhaustion.

If you must venture out, wear sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and bring water with you.  Drink often.  Try to limit your exposure to the outside to only a few minutes at a time.

When you come back in, let your body cool down naturally. Drink more water and relax.

Enjoy the sun, but be safe.

Sleep is important

How many of you get the proper amount of sleep? The correct amount of sleep is very important to maintain brain function and rejuvenate the soul.

When we were toddlers we slept for 13 hours or more. Then as we grow up, our need for sleep diminishes. By the time we are adults, we need around 8 hours of sleep to function.

Of course, most of us have had the all night party, or movie session or other event that deprived us of that needed sleep.

For me, after a sleepless night or a night with only a couple of hours of sleep, I feel more tired in the morning than I did at night. Almost the same feeling as a hangover. Very similar to a night of drinking.

I know that sleep is important. I feel recharged and energized. I enjoy waking up after a nice restfulnsleep. I feel ready to conquer the day.

So the biggest thing to ask yourself is, "do you get enough sleep?"

The Journey progresses

When you find that you have no weightloss, or your wieghtloss has hit a platuea, do not give up.  It is usually due to your body getting used to your routine.  Maybe it is time to change your intensity level of your workout.

Or, and more likely, you need to adjust your diet.  Either cut something out that you have been eating too much of, or add something to your diet that you had elminated.  You need to cause a slight shock to the system that will cause your body to adjust and start burning fat again.

I went through a couple of weeks where I only lost 2 pounds in 14 days.  So I did something drastic and eliminated meat from my diet for a week.  I supplimented my food with extra protein.  I am not saying that everyone should do this, just try something different.

Well for me it worked.  After the 7 days, I weighed myself and I had lost 7.8 pounds.  Not bad for a week of minor torture.  LOL.

Do what you feel you should do.  Everyone is different and what works for me, might not work for you.

Try something that is away from the routine and you may be surprised.

To your success.

Time is valuable

How many times have we said that we are too busy in our lives to do something? How many times have you wanted to try something but you couldn't find the time to do it?

When was the last time you did a personal audit? Or "balanced the books" in regards to your time?

I myself have said that I am too busy to do something? But in actual fact, I have wasted time throughout the day to the point where there is nothing left.

When you seriously want to do something, you find the time.

That's what I am asking you to do. Evaluate the time you spend in front of the tv and decide if it is to relax, or simply pass the time? If you are simply watching tv to pass the time, then you can take time from that activity and put it towards your "free time".

Now,we all need to relax in this fast paced world. I get that. What I needed to do was find 7 minutes in my day where I could focus on my health, fitness and well being.

7 minutes does not seem like a lot of time. It isn't. 7 minutes is only 420 seconds.

What I do with my 7 minutes is to do an intense workout. What can you do with your 7 minutes that will improve your life?

If you need guidance on how to start with the workout, feel free to contact me at 7minworkoutmike@gmail.com

Now that you have 7 minutes put aside, what will you do with them?

Getting smaller 7 minutes at a time.

Everything worth doing is worth doing well. I continue to be amazed by the progress that I have made. Every time I put on an article of clothing, it is looser than ever. I no long have shorts that fit. My new belt doesn't work in them.

I actually don't mind this problem. Gee, darn. I have to by new clothes because I am losing a lot of weight. I am nit buying much now, because I am not done yet.

Until next time my friends,

Nice Surprise

Today, I was looking for clothes to wear. I have clothes that I have worn recently, and I have mentioned them. I also have clothes that I haven't worn in several years. Well, I tried some on and they didn't fit right. We went shopping for a new outfit today. Picked out a few different sizes, and went to the changing room. I picked up the smallest pair of jeans and shirt that I had picked out. This morning, I woke up thinking I wore a size 38 pants and XL shirt. Hmmm, WRONG!! I easily fit in to a size 36 pant and LARGE shirt. I couldn't believe it. More proof that diet and exercise works very well. Keep at it and success will be yours!

Celebrate the small victories.

Hey Everyone,
Remember as you are working towards a better and healthier you, you need to stop a moment and relish in the small victories.

If you are feeling tired, and beat down and feel that you aren't accomplishing anything, just stop for a moment.

When I started my program, I wore a 2xl shirt and a 48 pant.  I keep those clothes around, not because I am afraid I will go back to that size, but I keep them to put on from time to time to see how loose they are getting.

I also have some clothes that I used to wear when I was thinner.  I try those on from time to time as well to gauge my progress.

Well, I am happy to say that I am now in an XL or L shirt (depending on the brand) and my pants are a 38.  And they are a little loose.

So, while you may not always see the results on the scale, use tangible items to prove to yourself that you are doing the right thing and going in the right direction.

I am hoping within the next 3 or 4 months, I will need to get a whole new wardrobe as I won't have anything to wear anymore.  I am actually ok with this.  Because it is for a great reason and not because I have out grown all my clothes.
Keep going everyone, you are making positive changes and working towards a healthier you.

Taking it one step at a time

This journey has been going on now for 9 weeks.  Back when I started this I had a goal that I wanted to be at by this time.  It was of course a ridiculous goal.  I wanted to be down 60 pounds by now.  That is not the case.  Real weight loss takes time and effort.  Using the 7minute work out model, and a healthy diet plan, I have managed to actually lose 45 pounds in 9 weeks.  Much better than I actually thought I could do.  I am living this diet and this exercise program daily.

Going through my closet is becoming a challenge.  I am now finding more clothes that are too big instead of being forced to by clothes because they are getting too small.  I like the challenge and I am finding that my hunger cravings are more sympathetic cravings than actual cravings.   My fiancĂ©e is doing this same program and she is finding it hard to deal with the cravings.  I have wants, but I wouldn't call them cravings.

I like food and I am learning how to eat foods that I haven't had before in a new way.  I love Bok Choy.  I eat Swiss Chard like it is going out of style.  Growing up I couldn't stand broccoli or cauliflower.  Now I look forward to eating it.

So I am learning to take things one step at a time.  Everything worth doing is worth doing well.

Water is Life

Are you drinking your water?  I don't mean a glass when you are thirsty.  I am talking about drinking 8 - 10 8oz glasses of water a day.  More if you are overweight.  Lots more if you are obese.  Also, drink water after a 7min workout.  Your body is always using the water that you consume.  You are 60 - 70 percent water.  You must keep hydrated to function properly.

Let me guess, you don't like drinking a lot of water because you have to use the restroom often.  Don't worry.  After a couple of days of drinking proper amounts of water, your organs become more efficient in eliminating waste and toxins from your body. You will actually take fewer trips to the restroom.

If you are a coffee drinker, you need to remember that coffee is a diuretic and robs your body of water.  So if you love your coffee, drink a glass of water for every coffee you have.

I have a 32oz schooner mug that I always have with me when I am at home.  Easy to fill and I know that if I have 2 of those, I have my 8 glasses of water.  But I am obese, so I drink more water. I actually need 14 8oz glasses of water a day.  That works out to 0.9 Gallons of water.  That seems like a lot.

No one expects you to drink all this in one sitting.  If you are at your desk at work, have a glass of water every hour.  I bring 2 16oz refillable water bottles to work.  I drink one through the morning and one through the afternoon.

Water is essential to health.  Helps curb your appetite, helps with brain function.  If you are tired all the time, you may actually be dehydrated.  The majority of people in North America are dehydrated because they take water for granted and only drink when they are thirsty.  When you experience thirst, your body is actually demanding relief from the intense pain that every system is in.  Even if you don't feel actual pain, your organs are suffering.

I am no expert.  I am only relaying articles that I have read in the past and my own experiences.  I can tell when I am getting dehydrated and no thirst response has happened.  So I drink water.

That dryness in your mouth, scratchy throat, sore muscles, dull skin.  All have been attributed to lack of water.

So grab your glass and get drinking.

Time to celebrate

I have been on this diet and exercise regime now for 8 weeks.  Not a long time, and the time has gone quickly.  I am happy to say that I have reached a milestone.  40 pounds lost, and a total of 48" lost as well.  That's FOUR FEET.  I am only 5'7" tall.  So that is a staggering amount of lost inches.  I take measurements every few weeks. I measure my neck, chest, belly, waist, left and right thigh, hips and left and right arm.  I have been keeping track and I am very pleased with the results.

One very nice surprise I have encountered is trying on clothes that I have not been able to wear in a few years.  I am currently wearing shorts that I have not even looked at in 3 years.  The shirt I am wearing is an XL and it is loose on me.  I was a 2XL 8 weeks ago.

So in order to celebrate correctly, I am not going to go on a pig out fest and eat my face off.  That's what caused this problem to begin with.  Instead, I am going to continue my diet and exercise program and look forward to the next milestone.

It is important to set goals.  Don't set loft goals, especially in the beginning.  Set goals that take some work, but are attainable.

7 minutes to fitness

Getting fit for only 7 minutes at a time

May 4th, 2011 § Leave a Comment
I have been meaning to start this blog for a while now.
First of all, let me introduce myself.  I am a 40 year old guy who has been overweight most of my adult life. I am currently on several medications that help me deal with the problems associated with my weight.  I find this unacceptable.  I have had trouble sleeping and I get shot of breath just doing easy tasks.
I have started on a healthier eating plan. I cut out all junk food.  No carbs, lots of protein, limited fats and lots of water.  Since my diet is so drastic, I am also taking vitamins, and supplements that will replace the nutrients that I am not currently getting.
When I started this new page in my life, I weighed in at 266 pounds.  I am only 5’7″ tall.  That’s a BMI of over 42.  I am currently 230 pounds.  My BMI is now 35.  Still classed as obese, but I am moving in the right direction.
I was introduced to a website that I will provide soon.  I can’t yet, because it is still in testing mode.  Anyway, on this site, I have learned that you don’t have to kill yourself in the gym to lose weight and feel great.  They are very informative and supportive about the right way to work out.
A typical day for me is I get up at 6:30, shower and for breakfast have a protein drink.  For lunch, I have a protein soup and 2 cups of vegetables, steamed or raw. Then I have a protein shake in the afternoon.  For supper I have an 8 oz serving of very lean meat with 2 cups of vegetables.
There are limits to the type of vegetables that I can eat.  Lots of lettuce, cucumbers and celery.  raw onions, raw or steamed broccoli and cauliflower, swiss chard, radishes.  Basically no legumes and no starchy items.  Starch breaks down to sugar as do carbs and your body needs to learn how to burn sugar and not store it.  This diet that I am working on is to help reprogram my pancreas in order to burn calories and not simply store them.
Let me tell you, after only 7 weeks of this diet and exercise program I have lost 36 pounds and I am feeling much better.  I have more energy and I am sleeping much better.
I can’t wait to share my successes as they happen.
Hoping to see less of me each day.
