Beat the heat

When you are dedicated to your exercise and fitness, you know that at times you need to make adjustments to your schedule.

For example, I live in Canada on the Prairies. We have very hot dry summers and very cold winters. So we make adjustments to our routine as needed.

Today the temperature is 31c (88f),  with a humidex of 42c (107f) . That is pretty warm. So instead of doing my activities outside in the blazing hot sun, I remain inside where it is safer and cooler.  I only venture out in the evening when the sun is not so hot.

During the day, you have to keep hyrated.  Drink water and plenty of it.  Where loose comfortable clothing so that you do not run the risk of heat exhaustion.

If you must venture out, wear sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and bring water with you.  Drink often.  Try to limit your exposure to the outside to only a few minutes at a time.

When you come back in, let your body cool down naturally. Drink more water and relax.

Enjoy the sun, but be safe.

Onederland!!

No, that is not a typo. That is a true statement. I am officially in onederland.

I am now 198 pounds. (was 285 at Christmas, 266 when I started this program in March)
I feel incredible. I have more energy than I have ever had. I feel stronger, I sleep better and I am enjoying life more. This program is for real. Real people working together to get results. I am so happy to be a part of this magnificent site. Everything is going well. I talk to people at work and my friends about this site. They are becoming curious because I am losing weight and getting healthier. I feel proud to be involved with this site and I enjoy sharing my accomplishments with everyone. There are days where I get a little discouraged but I quickly remember that we are all in this together. There are forums for advice, blogs for ideas and the ability to simply message other members. We are a family, albeit a world wide family, but a family nonetheless. We rejoice in the good times and lend support in the hard times. Thank you everyone. I can't wait for my next workout. (today was abs and shoulders). Have a wonderful day.

Sleep is important

How many of you get the proper amount of sleep? The correct amount of sleep is very important to maintain brain function and rejuvenate the soul.

When we were toddlers we slept for 13 hours or more. Then as we grow up, our need for sleep diminishes. By the time we are adults, we need around 8 hours of sleep to function.

Of course, most of us have had the all night party, or movie session or other event that deprived us of that needed sleep.

For me, after a sleepless night or a night with only a couple of hours of sleep, I feel more tired in the morning than I did at night. Almost the same feeling as a hangover. Very similar to a night of drinking.

I know that sleep is important. I feel recharged and energized. I enjoy waking up after a nice restfulnsleep. I feel ready to conquer the day.

So the biggest thing to ask yourself is, "do you get enough sleep?"

The Journey progresses

When you find that you have no weightloss, or your wieghtloss has hit a platuea, do not give up.  It is usually due to your body getting used to your routine.  Maybe it is time to change your intensity level of your workout.

Or, and more likely, you need to adjust your diet.  Either cut something out that you have been eating too much of, or add something to your diet that you had elminated.  You need to cause a slight shock to the system that will cause your body to adjust and start burning fat again.

I went through a couple of weeks where I only lost 2 pounds in 14 days.  So I did something drastic and eliminated meat from my diet for a week.  I supplimented my food with extra protein.  I am not saying that everyone should do this, just try something different.

Well for me it worked.  After the 7 days, I weighed myself and I had lost 7.8 pounds.  Not bad for a week of minor torture.  LOL.

Do what you feel you should do.  Everyone is different and what works for me, might not work for you.

Try something that is away from the routine and you may be surprised.

To your success.
